Energy Efficiency Hackathon 2026

Energy Efficiency Hackathon 2026 is a national innovation challenge organized to unlock creative, technology-driven solutions that address Tanzania’s growing energy efficiency needs. Convened by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy (MoE) and the Tanzania Industrial Research and Development Organization (TIRDO) with the support from the Embassy of Ireland under the Ushirikiano wa Kijani project. The hackathon provides a dynamic platform for young innovators to design, prototype, and scale impactful solutions.

Under the theme “Hack the Watts: Buni, Unda, Okoa Nishati,” the hackathon brings together multidisciplinary teams to tackle real-world challenges across three focus areas:

1. Smart energy monitoring
2. Energy-Efficient Buildings
3. Integrated Water–Energy Management

The hackathon will take place as part of Tanzania Innovation Week 2026, ending with a final showcase where teams will present their solutions to a panel of experts, investors, and industry stakeholders. Participants will:

Collaborate in diverse teams to tackle real-world energy challenges.
Receive mentorship and technical guidance to refine ideas and develop prototypes.
Present their solutions to a panel of judges during the final showcase.
Compete for awards, including up to 10,000,000 TZS in seed funding and post-hackathon support to scale their innovations.
